Commitment

J.S.Cock works to ensure accountability in all parts of the value chain, so that human rights and the environment are safeguarded. As we have a responsibility to contribute to sustainability, human rights and ethics, purchases of goods and services that are procured must not violate applicable laws and regulations, key UN conventions, ILO conventions ratified by Norway or national labor legislation at the production site. The UN Declaration of Human Rights must be respected. In this regard, the company has established ethical guidelines for its own employees (JSC-F-122 Ethical Guidelines) and a Code of Conduct for our suppliers (Supplier Code of Conduct).

We conduct due diligence when establishing new suppliers and focus on our key suppliers. We direct our efforts where the risk and our influence are greatest, and implement measures that reflect the challenges we face in each individual case to prevent harm.

J.S.Cock is committed to hearing and addressing all complaints we receive from affected stakeholders. Complaints, concerns and comments can be sent to fu@jsc.no.

J.S.Cock is not directly involved in the production of goods or the purchase of raw materials. We leave these tasks to suppliers and their subcontractors. In the first supplier tier, we cooperate with companies in Europe, the USA/Canada and China. We consider first-tier suppliers in countries such as China to be our greatest risk for violations of human rights and environmental regulations and therefore direct our focus on these. We will then continue to work on identifying other first-tier suppliers who, based on self-declarations, do not appear to have adequate follow-up routines in place. In addition, precious metals such as gold are used in a very small proportion of the products we sell – these are therefore also considered to be somewhat at risk. We will ensure that raw materials do not come from conflict areas.

Supplier ratings

All our suppliers are regularly risk assessed and approved according to our procedure JSC-P-800 (Supplier Approval and Evaluation). Our requirements depend on the size and risk of the supplier. Large suppliers or suppliers with risk must have signed our Code of Conduct and provide information related to human rights, environmental impact, etc. We use these self-assessments to assess their ability to reduce the risk of human rights violations in their value chains.

The due diligence assessments will enable us to identify, prioritize and manage negative impacts on people, society and the environment in our value chain, whether they arise directly in our own operations or indirectly through our collaboration with suppliers. Our employees carry out purchasing based on our procedure JSC-P-810 (Purchasing & Dispatching).

Risk-based, continuous process

The process of identifying risks in the value chain, implementing measures and monitoring whether they work is called due diligence. J.S.Cock conducts due diligence assessments on human rights based on suppliers' self-assessment. Suppliers sign our Code of Conduct and commit to following our requirements for human rights, ethics and the environment.

JSCock’s due diligence framework is based on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Due Diligence Model for Responsible Business. It describes a risk-based approach that starts with grounding, mapping and risk assessment, and culminates in action, reporting and monitoring. This should be a continuous process to identify products or suppliers with particularly high risk.

Anchoring responsible operations in the business

Embedding responsible operations in the business is about having relevant policies and guidelines in place as well as effective management systems for their implementation. In J.S.Cock This means that we communicate our responsibility to work with due diligence assessments and responsible purchasing practices to our subcontractors. Furthermore, we have a Code of Conduct that must be signed by all suppliers and routines for selection, approval, cooperation and follow-up of suppliers.
