Limit switch boxes are used to monitor and provide feedback when the valve is in certain positions, most often fully open or closed. Variations in design can provide both local indication and remote indication via position sensors inside the box that send the corresponding signal to the control system. Limit switches are an important and useful tool for ensuring correct system operation without having to physically go and check.

The junction boxes are often equipped with adjustable switches that can be mechanical or inductive, the boxes or components may have a range of certifications such as SIL, ATEX, etc.
