Term Main definition

The limiting stress beyond which a material will sustain permanent deformation. Up to the yield strength the material will spring back to its original dimension when the applied stress is removed. Once the yield point is passed some amount of the deformation will be irreversible.

That part of a gate valve which serves as a spacer between the bonnet and the operator or actuator.

In solid mechanics Young's Modulus is a measure of stiffness. It is also known as modulus of elasticity elastic modulus or tensile modulus (the bulk modulus and shear modulus are different types of elastic modulus). It is defined as the ratio for small strains of the rate of change of stress with strain. This can be experimentally determind from the slope of a stress- strain curve created during tensiles test conducted on a sample of the material.
