Hand wheels on valves, including gear operators, shall be permanently marked "Open/Closed" with an arrow to indicate direction of rotation.

Handwheels on valves, including gear operators shall be permanently marked "Open/Closed" with an arrow to indicate direction of rotation.
The valves shall be fitted with a gearbox when the following breakaway forces are exceeded:
Lever-operated:
Max. force 350 N.
Max. length of lever 600 mm.
(Max. torque 270 Nm).
Handwheel-operated:
Max. single hand force 200 N.
Max. diameter of handwheel 750 mm.
(Max. torque 150 Nm).

 

 

Gearboxes shall be:

· complete with handwheel and position indicator.
· totally enclosed and weather-proof, packed with a suitable lubricant and be equipped with one or more easily accessible grease fittings permitting easy packing in situ, and lubrication of rotating shafts penetrating the gear-box.
· equipped with adjustable open/close end-stops, where applicable.

Gear-boxes mounted directly to the valve bonnet shall be equipped with a plug, in order to relieve any leakage from stem packing into the gear-box, without allowing water to enter the gear-box.

All valves specified for actuator application:

 

 

When the valve is specified for actuator application, the following shall apply:

a) The valve shall be supplied without wrench, handwheel or gearbox. The actuator is not part of this specification.
b) Rising stem valves shall have plain stem without threads (depending on type of actuator). The valve stem shall be finished to suit actuator type and adaption. The adaption should conform to ISO 5211 or 5210 as relevant unless agreed differently with Company.
c) Acutator operated API 6 D expanding gate valves which are used as double isolation valve shall have a mechanical locking device, for local release only, in order to lock the valve in closed position.
